PM Al-Kadhimi: 4 decisions regarding Jibla incident

    Prime Minister and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, issued on Monday, 4 decisions related to the Jibla incident, Babil.
     
    The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces included in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that he "follows up with great interest the details of the bloody massacre that was committed in Jibla, Babil and ordered the National Security Agency to investigate the crime; to bring out the facts about its details, those involved in it, and also indicate the defect in the security system that allowed the transmission of inaccurate intelligence information for personal purposes, and caused the death of innocents, or allowed the security references and public opinion to be misled about the truth of the incident and its circumstances,”
     
    Al-Kadhimi received a report from the head of the National Security Agency that included an explanation of the circumstances that accompanied the crime, including “indications of clear failure in the performance of the security system, as in cooperation with the judicial authority, an arrest was made to 14 of those who participated in the crime, whether by handling malicious information or in the execution thereof,” according to the statement.
     
    According to all of that, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces decided the following,
     
    1- Forming a security investigation team headed by the Chief of Staff of the Army, with membership of the Undersecretary of the National Security System, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Police Affairs, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, and the Deputy National Security Adviser to expand the scope of the investigation into the circumstances that allowed the crime and the multiplicity of sources of intelligence information, that allowed to continue receiving malicious reports and acting in accordance to it without subjecting it to objective scrutiny, referring all negligent persons to the judiciary and submitting a report to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces within one week.
     
    2- The dismissal of Babil police chief, Babil intelligence director, and Jibla intelligence director, referring them to immediate investigation, and bringing all those involved in the crime to court to implement the maximum penalties against them.
     
    3- Refer those involved in handling and announcing security information in the Ministry of Interior and the Security Media Cell to an investigation regarding the dissemination of misleading information about the incident.
     
    4- Assigning the National Security Adviser to submit a final report to the Commander-in-Chief of the Surveying Forces on the organization of the security and intelligence workspaces for all ministries and trusted institutions, and the gaps that allow overlap in the security and intelligence workspaces, in a way that definitely prevents the recurrence of such crimes in the future.
