The World Health Organization confirmed that vaccines against the Corona virus are effective against all mutants, and while noting that Omicron is rapidly spreading and has 3 genes, and it called on Iraqis to follow 4 methods to prevent it.
The representative of the World Health Organization in Iraq, Dr. Ahmed Zueitin told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the new mutated virus “Omicron” was discovered for the first time on the ninth of November, in South Africa, and the World Health Organization was informed of its presence on the 24th of the same month, and after two days of studying all the data, the organization launched on November 26, it was called 'Omicron', and also classified it as a mutant of concern."
He added, "The mutated Omicron has the ability to spread more," especially after seeing it and its spread in South Africa, especially since Africa is on the approach of a summer season in the southern hemisphere, in which the infection rate decreases, but it quickly spread sharply.
He pointed out that "there are three genes for the omicron mutant, two of which can be detected in (PCR), and the third gene called (S) is not detected in the device", such as the British (alpha) mutant.
He pointed out that "the World Health Organization does not have data now about classifying the virus as more ferocious; we know its spread, and we are waiting for what the studies say in the coming days, and there will be sufficient information about it," noting that "the effectiveness of vaccines will be similar to the effectiveness with all mutants, but this talk is premature.”
