The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced on Saturday, that the vaccination rate in the country has reached 30% of the target group, confirming that the country is on the brink of a new wave of the pandemic, that it cannot be faced only by taking the vaccines.

"The rate of taking the vaccine in Iraq has reached about 30% of the target group that starts from the age of 18 years and over, and less than that if we include the group of age 12 and over," noting that "The ministry's goal is to reach 60% by the end of this year," The Director of Public Health, Riyad Abdul-Amir, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"People's demand for vaccination declined after the rate of daily infections with Corona virus decreased, as if the danger had gone," stressing that "we cannot believe that the disease has disappeared and there is no need for the vaccine, especially since everyone sees that infections in neighboring countries and European countries have started to escalate again," Abdul-Amir added.

He warned that "the country is on the brink of a wave that may be severe and can only be confronted by taking the vaccine, since adhering the preventive measures is difficult and affects the source of people’s living, in addition to refusing to adhere the precautionary measures by some people; thus taking the vaccine is the only solution.”
