Al-Maliki calls on the demonstrators not to escalate

    leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, called today, Friday, for the demonstrators not to escalate, while warning against the intervention of malicious hands and suspicious parties in order to ignite sedition and mix cards. 


    Al-Maliki said in a tweet on his Twitter page, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "I call on all the demonstrators who object to the results of the elections and who are demanding their legitimate rights, not to escalate, and to follow the legal contexts in demonstrating and demanding the transparency of the elections and to stay away from friction with the security forces or provoking them, we are with you. In meeting your legitimate demands and your fairness.  

    Al-Maliki also called on "the security forces to assume their responsibilities in protecting the demonstrators and public property and not to be drawn into confrontation with their fellow demonstrators."  

    He continued, "We strongly condemn the aggression and the use of violence and excessive force by any party, and we warn against the intervention of malicious hands and suspicious parties in order to ignite sedition and confuse the cards."
