The Executive Director of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced on Thursday, during the company's annual "Connect" conference, change the name of his company to "Meta.".
Facebook revealed, earlier, its intention to change its name to reflect its upcoming projects in creating the virtual “Metaverse” world, according to what the Verge website reported.
The new name will reflect the company's ambition to become more than a company specialized in social networking sites, and the new name may place the blue Facebook brand under the umbrella of a parent company that supervises other groups, such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and others.
Furthermore, Facebook announced the provision of 10,000 jobs to develop "Metaverse", which is expected to shape the future of the Internet.
The term metaverse refers to a world beyond the internet, as we know it today, where people will use virtual and augmented reality devices, rather than laptops and phones, to enter virtual spaces.
