The Directorate of the Wasit Antiquities Inspectorate revealed Saturday that the Italian mission in charge of excavation in Tal al-Boqrat, west of Kut, found 500 artifacts and ziggurat dating back to the modern Babylonian era.
"Antiquities teams of the Italian mission in coordination with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Tourism have begun to explore the Site of Tal al-Baqarat in al-Ahrar area, west of Kut, under the supervision of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage and the Wasit Antiquities Inspectorate," Hassanein al-Musawi, director of the Antiquities Inspectorate in Wasit, told the Iraqi News Agency.
"Since 2013, the mission has begun to excavate the " Tal al-Baqarat " and has been able to discover more than 500 artifacts represented by cylindrical seals, pots, mugs, pottery jars and a clay plates, as well as a ziggurat, temple and some housing units, all dating back to the modern Babylonian period," he said.
Tal al-Baqarat dates back to ancient historical periods and contains traces of Sumerian, Akkadian and Babylonian civilizations.
