The first deputy of parliament speaker, Hassan Karim al-Kaabi, confirmed Wednesday, that “The world is facing serious challenges threatening world peace and security, calling on countries around the world to focus their efforts to counter terrorist ideology and confront extremism, intolerance and violence.
The media office of The first deputy of parliament speaker said in a statement, received by Iraqi news agency (INA) that “Al-Kaabi led the delegation of the Iraqi Parliament and the membership of deputies Alaa Talabani and Adnan Al-Zarfi to participate in the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in cooperation with the Austrian Parliament, the Federation of International Parliament and the United Nations, held in Vienna."
Al-Kaabi said in a speech at the conference that “Participating countries should discuss and point out the challenges that their countries and the Middle East region are experiencing in particular, make decisions and recommendations to improve the current situation of all countries.
He added that “Iraq is approaching the date of early parliamentary elections to be held next month after the completion of the requirements to hold them impartially and fairly, confirming the principle of peaceful dealing of power which is the path taken by all as an expression of the will of the people, and believing in the democratic approach after the end of the Baathist dictatorship”, calling on "friendly countries to participate in the monitoring elections.”
Concerning Palestine, al-Kaabi described "the issue as essential and fundamental over time, an issue that has become threatened in light of the continuation of settlement plans and repeated attacks by the Zionist entity," praising "the efforts of friendly countries that have stood up honorably to reject these attacks.”
al-Kaabi pointed out that “These meetings take place under difficult circumstances, where disturbing clashes are taking place throughout the world and the region, which threaten world peace and security, a matter which needs effective solidarity, cooperation and coordination among all," stressing on “The need to address all the humanitarian, health, security and economic challenges and problems suffered by the international community and to emphasize strengthening the capacity of states to prevent and combat terrorism, ensure respect for human rights and the rule of law, maintain the unity, sovereignty and stability of states and not interfere in the internal affairs of any country.”
Al-Kaabi also mentioned Iraq’s recent prominent role in the region and the world, particularly its central role in resolving the conflict in the region saying that "We must continue meetings and visits that will strengthen relations and achieve the advancement and progress of our peoples”.
He also said that “We need to seek to develop economic integration and launch initiatives that will empower young people, support women and consolidate the concept of sustainable development," calling on participating countries to "work together by adopting policies and legislation to ensure that all common difficulties, including the CORONA pandemic file, are addressed as a humanitarian issue and that all poor and rich countries alike must get vaccines approved by world health.”
