China closed today, Thursday, one of the world's largest ports due to the Corona epidemic, at a time when disruptions in logistical transport weighed on supplies.

An official in charge of the operation of the Meishan terminal in the port, Jiang Yiping, said that "since yesterday, Wednesday, a corona infection was discovered among the employees, the activity was stopped immediately and the relevant area in the port was closed.

Ningbo Zhoushan port is located 250 kilometers south of Shanghai, and it is one of the main Chinese ports for shipping. And through it, goods weighing one billion and two hundred thousand tons passed through it, and it is the third in terms of freight, while the newly built Meishan station has a capacity of 10 million containers, according to the Chinese press.

The authorities have not yet determined how Corona managed to reach Lines of employees in the port, as they are vaccinated and undergo regular checks, but about 2,000 of them have been placed in isolation as a precaution.

The shutdown of a terminal in the port of Ningbo Zhoushan may exacerbate the shipping situation, which is under pressure globally due to health restrictions, and restart the economy, which has led to an increase in demand for goods.

Last May, the temporary closure of the Chinese port of Yantian (south) due to the Corona virus caused a delay in the delivery of goods for weeks.

It is noteworthy that China recorded 81 new infections today, including 38 local ones. This number is still very low compared to the numbers recorded in other countries.
