Minister of Water Resources – MOWR, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani confirmed on Wednesday, that the safety and security of Mosul Dam is complete.
Al-Hamdani, visited Nineveh Governorate, accompanied by the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry and a number of general managers, as he met the Governor of Nineveh, Najm Abdullah Al-Jubouri, according to a statement by MOWR, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During the meeting, they discussed the irrigation reality in the governorate and the ministry’s efforts to rehabilitate irrigation projects.
"The visit to the province comes to follow up on the work carried out by the ministry's formations in the province, and that the ministry is working to complete the irrigation projects that were stopped during the control of ISIS terrorist gangs over Nineveh province and to overcome all difficulties to speed up its completion," said Al-Hamadani.
He stressed, "The safety of Mosul Dam is fully insured, with pure Iraqi expertise and hands, working around the clock to operate this important facility. The ministry is also working to rehabilitate the infrastructure of Al Jazeera irrigation project to include its completion in next year's budget,”
Al-Hamdani pointed out that "the government, through the Ministry of Water Resources, is keen to obtain Iraq's water rights through dialogues with neighboring countries, and there is a technical team from the ministry that will visit Ankara during the next few days to activate cooperation protocols and discuss Iraq's water share.
He went on explaining that “the neighbor Turkey promised to share the damage during this period.
“The ministry is working to re-evaluate the status of the Badush Dam, in coordination with international companies, and in the event that positive results of the re-evaluation appear, the ministry will begin to complete the dam," he added.
