PSC calls for diplomatic action in response to the repeated Turkish incursion

    The Security and Defense Committee in Parliament called on Thursday to move a diplomatic response to a Turkish incursion into northern Iraq , repeated, while confirming that no objection to the entry of the Iraqi army for any place in the region.

    Committee member Saran Al-Ajibi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The repeated Turkish incursion into the Iraqi borders needs a serious pause, and that the Security and Defense Committee has demanded several times the need for coordination between the central government and the region to go to Ankara to solve this problem."
    He added, "The Security and Defense Committee is not in favor of going to war with any other country because the situation does not allow that, but there are pressures that the government can exert, which is the economic paper as well as diplomacy," 
    stressing the need to "activate diplomacy and have a role in the Security Council and the United Nations." the United Nations, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic States.

    Al-Ajibi added that "Turkey says that there are some attacks that affect Turkish national security and force it to enter Iraqi territory," noting that "there are previous agreements between Iraq and Turkey that enable entry to the neighboring territories of the two parties if there is an attack from either country."

    He stressed the need for "there to be understandings and serious discussions with Turkey to resolve this issue," stressing that "there is cooperation between the federal government and the region, with a joint coordination center and joint operations command between the security units in Kurdistan and the central government, and there is no objection to the army's entry. 

    Iraqi forces are located anywhere in the region, and there is a force of border guards present in the Kurdistan region within the leadership of the First Border Guard Division, which is based in Erbil and is deployed within the region.”

    Cities in northern Iraq are subjected to frequent Turkish bombing and incursions, and Ankara says that the aim is to hunt down PKK militants.
