The Basra Operations Command announced today, Thursday, the confiscation of large numbers of light and medium weapons.
The Commander of Basra Operations, Major General Ali Abdul-Hussein Al-Majidi, stressed, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "the need to conduct reviews of all unlicensed weapons and ammunition that were confiscated during inspections within the sector of responsibility to be a positive message of reassurance to the Basra citizen."
He added, "One of the most important goals of the leadership in managing the security file is to limit weapons to the hands of the state and not to trade and use them in clan conflicts and others," noting that "work is serious to achieve this goal."
He continued, "The security forces were able to confiscate large numbers of light and medium weapons as well as various types of ammunition during the past few period," stressing "the continuation of search and inspection operations in areas witnessing a boom in the sale and use of weapons, and the security and intelligence agencies must work to collect private information about the arms dealers."
