
Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced that it is awaiting funding to rehabilitate the Iraqi Museum building, restore its luster, and open it.
Imad Jassim, Undersecretary of the Ministry Culture, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The ministry focuses heavily on the Iraqi Museum, and is awaiting funding from the Cabinet and Parliament," noting that "the ministry has requested this funding for years.
Jassim called for "the cooperation of the official authorities to finance the Ministry of Culture in order to restore the building of the Iraqi Museum, which is the ancient museum that was founded in 1966," noting that "the museum building suffers from many problems and it is necessary to restore its luster to open museums to students of schools, universities and tourists, and to restore Museum culture and citizens' awareness of the museum, which has been closed for many years.
