The Ministry of Oil announced , today, Thursday, its contract on a large project that includes the establishment of an advanced unit inside the southern refineries, while setting the date for operating the Karbala refinery.
"There are several projects prepared by the ministry to increase production and improve product quality for Iraqi factories by adding new units to old refineries and establishing new refineries to produce high-quality derivatives," ministry spokesman Asim Jihad told the Iraqi News Agency.
He added that "the ministry added a number of units in the southern refineries, including the Izmara unit, and its goal is to increase and improve oil production, in addition to that there is a large project contracted to establish an advanced unit within the southern refineries with a capacity of 55 thousand barrels per day and it is called (FCC)", indicating that "These are one of the modern refineries called (Euro Five) according to European specifications, and this will contribute to adding good quantities, quality and high efficiency."
He pointed out that "this refinery has the advantage of being black oil in limited quantities and derivatives of high quality," explaining that "the isomerization project will open in the middle of this year, while the FCC project will take four years."
Jihad added, "The middle refineries have added units to improve gasoline and isomerization units that aim to increase production," noting that "the ministry has succeeded in rehabilitating and rebuilding the Salah al-Din refinery in Baiji or al-Samoud in Baiji, as its production is now 110 thousand barrels per day."
