At its session in Cairo, the Arab Parliament passed a new law on capital punishment and guarantees of its application in Arab countries.
Parliament clarified that "this law is unified, to which Arab states rely upon when preparing or updating their national legislation regarding the regulation of the death penalty and guarantees of its application.
The law came as a result of discussions and recommendations of a seminar held by the Arab parliament on" the death penalty in Arab countries and guarantees of application. "
The head of the Arab Parliament, Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, stressed that "this law came within the framework of the efforts of the Arab parliament to address the fallacies and negative reports issued by some international organizations regarding the implementation of the death penalty in Arab countries.
The law aims to establish a unified Arab vision on the application of the death penalty and legal guarantees in accordance with Islamic law, spreading the tolerant and just concepts of Islamic law, and correcting misconceptions about the applications of the death penalty in Arab countries.
