French Defense Minister Florence Barley confirmed today, Sunday, that her country will send 600 additional soldiers to fight militants in the sub-Saharan Africa region."Most of these reinforcements will go to the area between Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, and another part will join the force of the" Group of Five "in the African Sahel region," Barley said in a statement.
France already has about 4,500 soldiers in the region, and the Sahel countries also agreed earlier to place their forces involved in fighting militants under a new joint command called the "Alliance for the Coast".
