During a briefing to the UN Security Council on the situation in Iraq, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Jenin Hennes Plaschaert, urged the international community to continue its critical support for Iraq's continued recovery in the post-Daesh period. It welcomed the Government's multilateral diplomatic efforts in the context of reducing regional tensions, and called on Iraq's political actors to work together to address priorities, including the limitation of all weapons under state control, the promotion of institution-building and the enactment of reforms.

She recalled the historic importance of the Security Council's visit to Baghdad on June 29, 2019, saying that the members of the Security Council had provided important assurances that were well received for your continued support for Iraq and its people. The lack of funding for post-conflict stabilization and humanitarian response, with gaps of about $ 300 and $ 500 million, respectively, is hindering the country's recovery, the Special Representative said.It welcomed the signing by the Government of Iraq of a cost-sharing agreement on 28 August 2019 to begin making its own contributions to the UNDP stabilization project.

She expressed her sincere hope for the continued and generous support of the international community, urging development partners to continue their funding of the Crisis Recovery and Resilience Program (RRP), in particular through the United Nations Trust Fund.
