President Barham Salih received the Commander of the US Central Command, CENTCOM, General Kenneth McKenzie and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad on Tuesday.
Salih asserted the importance of strengthening security and military cooperation in combating extremism and terrorism.
He stressed on the need to reduce the tension in the region in a way that consolidates joint action and enhances regional and international security.
“The next phase requires concerted efforts and joint coordination to rebuild and construct the liberated areas,” said the President.
For his part, General McKenzie confirmed his country’s continued support for the Iraqi forces and the US backup to eradicate terrorism.
During the meeting, they reviewed the latest political and security developments in the Arab region and internationally as well.
