Al-Halboosi to IOM: IDPs who don't belong to Daesh are welcomed

Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi met the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the Middle East and North Africa Carmela Godeau and the Head of Mission of Iraq Gerard Waite.

During the meeting, they reviewed the efforts of the organization during the visit of the regional director to some IDP camps and stressed the continued return of humanitarian work in this regard.

Al-Halbusi said that the Iraqi government and people appreciate the efforts of the organization, but the humanitarian work of all international organizations is still far from the required level, pointing out that Iraq has witnessed the largest wave of displacement in contemporary history; the result of terrorist operations of ISIS organization, and despite the defeat of terrorism, but the image of victory was not completed only with the return of the IDPs to their areas.

He added that supporting Iraq for the file of the IDPs must be international; because Iraq has defended the whole world, and the assistance of the displaced is not by providing humanitarian aid in the camps, but by rehabilitating infrastructure and providing jobs that help and encourage them to return to their homelands.

“Iraq with its legislative and executive institutions will work with the IOM to encourage the voluntary return of the IDPs, and the families that do not belong to ISIS or did not participate in it are welcomed to return,” said al-Halbusi.

For her part, Godeau promised to work to facilitate the voluntary return of the IDPs, as well as the efforts of the IOM to work hard for Iraq to be a member of the Organization Council as well.
