The United Nations handed over three new construction compounds in Anbar province.

The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) has handed over three new housing complexes to needy people in Anbar province, the Japanese foreign ministry said Tuesday.

"The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) has handed over a total of 286 units of basic housing units of permanence in three locations in Ramadi, Falluja and Karma in Anbar province," the Japanese embassy in Baghdad said in a statement, . "These sites were set up under the project" Support for Permanent Shelter for Displaced Persons in Iraq "funded by the Government of Japan.

Japan's ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Novomi Hashimoto, expressed his appreciation to all participants in the project, stressing that Japan recently decided to provide a new package of aid to Iraq worth 63 million dollars, including a project of the United Nations Human Settlements Program as a contribution to the rehabilitation of houses destroyed by the war.

Marta Ruids, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator, stressed the importance of this project as a model for the rest of Iraq by providing support to victims of completely destroyed homes.
