The 11th session of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development AFSD in Beirut kicked off on Monday under the chairmanship of Iraq.
A statement by the Ministry of Planning, obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that "the work of the eleventh session of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, began in Beirut today, and will continue for three days, which is organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the League of Arab States, under the slogan (restoring hope, raising ambition)," noting that "the Iraqi delegation participating in the forum headed by the Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim."
The statement added that "the delegation participating in the forum included the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Lebanese Minister of Administrative Development, representing President Joseph Aoun, and a number of Arab ministers and ambassadors and representatives of international organizations."
It continued, "The opening ceremony witnessed a singing event for a group of children, which included the national anthems of all Arab countries," noting that "Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim, delivered his speech in his capacity as president of the forum and a representative of Iraq."
According to the statement, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti, "delivered her speech in addition to the speech of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the speech of the President of the Lebanese Republic, as well as the speech of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed."
The statement pointed out that "the Iraqi delegation included the Director General of Human Development Maha Al-Rawi, the Director General of International Cooperation Saher Abdul Kadhim, the Director General of the Poverty Alleviation Strategy Muayad Ismail Hussein, the economist Wafa Al-Mahdawi, and a number of experts and specialists in the field of sustainable development."
It also explained that "Iraq will participate in a number of important sessions of the forum, including the ministerial session on the future charter, in light of the global digital compact, and another session on the review of the eighth goal of the sustainable development goals, which deals with decent work in support of economic growth, and a session on voluntary national reviews within the framework of the readiness of Iraq and a number of Arab countries to submit their voluntary reports for 2025, to the United Nations next July."
