The Border Ports Commission announced, today, Saturday, the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle medicines and medical supplies in the northern Umm Qasr port.
A statement by the authority received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: "The Directorate of the Umm Qasr Northern Port seized a container containing medicines, devices and medical supplies that were not declared."
It added that "the container was placed outside the customs area at the search and investigation point and was not mentioned in the completed customs transaction, as it did not carry the original approvals from the Ministry of Health and was not laboratory tested."
The statement stated that "a formal seizure report was organized regarding the incident, and the materials were referred to the Umm Qasr Northern Customs Police Station for the purpose of presenting it to the competent investigating judge."
