Health Minister Saleh Al-Hasnawi announced on Sunday the signing of a cooperation agreement with the French company Sanofi to develop the capabilities of the healthcare sector, noting that the company has plans to establish a factory in Iraq for drug production.
Al-Hasnawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The Iraqi government’s and Ministry of Health’s policy of openness to scientific advancements in various health fields has led to today’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and the globally recognized healthcare company, Sanofi.”
He explained that “the agreement aims to enhance the skills of workers in various health sectors, particularly nursing, in addition to automating many issues related to the registration of rare diseases and cancers.”
He added, “the agreement will make a significant, real, and practical contribution to the development of the Ministry of Health, especially in advancing nursing staff.”
Al-Hasnawi continued, “Sanofi has large contracts with the Ministry of Health and supplies medicine to the private sector. The company also has plans to establish a factory in collaboration with the Iraqi private pharmaceutical sector, which is one of the key pillars of the government’s program to localize pharmaceutical industry.” He expressed hope that “the project will be turned into reality in the near future.”
French Ambassador Patrick Dorrell confirmed to INA that “this agreement is important as France is committed to supporting the healthcare sector.”
He explained that “France seeks to further develop its relations with Iraq in the healthcare field, and the cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Sanofi will benefit the Iraqi people.”
He added, “We hope to see more French companies in Iraq, not only in the healthcare sector but across other fields as well.”
