The head of  Commission of Integrity-COI , Mohamed Ali Al-Lami, met with Karkh Court of Appeals President Judge Khaled Taha on Wednesday to discuss effective strategies for preventing and combating corruption.

Al-Lami emphasized that “combating corruption requires utmost efforts, and it is essential for everyone, both official and popular sectors, to contribute.”
He acknowledged the significant role of the judiciary in handling corruption cases, noting that “the Commission’s investigators work under the supervision of investigating judges, fully aware of the substantial responsibility placed on the judiciary, especially given the high number of reports and criminal cases pending resolution.”

He underscored the importance of creating a “safe, corruption-free environment that fosters investment and attracts investors,” stressing the need to develop mechanisms for preventing, combating, and prosecuting corruption.

Al-Lami further explained that the Commission’s work goes beyond punitive investigations, highlighting the critical role of preventive and educational measures. He pointed to the Commission’s efforts to cultivate a culture of integrity and transparency in both the public and private sectors, focusing on promoting personal integrity, adherence to public service ethics, and accountability through awareness programs.

Judge Khaled Taha, in turn, emphasized the “partnership and joint efforts” between the judiciary and oversight bodies to protect public funds. He commended the ongoing efforts to advance the rule of law, pursue corrupt individuals, and recover misappropriated funds.

Taha also noted that the goal of the judiciary and relevant bodies under its supervision is to resolve issues, not merely issue accusations, highlighting the effective coordination between the judiciary and the Integrity Commission to ensure timely case resolutions and appropriate rulings for the accused.
