Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani called for a comprehensive regional dialogue and emphasized adopting dialogue as the best approach to resolving disputes between countries. He affirmed Iraq’s commitment to building balanced relations with all international and regional parties to serve mutual interests. His remarks came during a joint press conference held today, Wednesday, in Tehran with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Media Office of the Prime Minister stated in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that “The Prime Minister stressed the rejection of threats in international relations, noting that such an approach only leads to more crises and tensions. He underscored the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter and reiterated his call for a regional dialogue to build trust and ensure security and peace for all. He also announced Iraq’s intention to host an international conference in Baghdad for this purpose”.
The statement added,"Prime Minister Al-Sudani expressed his gratitude to President Pezeshkian for inviting him to visit Iran, highlighting the expanded meeting between the two countries’ delegations. The discussions covered bilateral relations in economic, social, cultural, and religious dimensions, as well as agreements and memorandums of understanding".
He emphasized that outcomes from President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Iraq are being followed up, with bilateral ministerial meetings planned to discuss details of joint projects in electricity and gas supply to Iraq.
He also affirmed that “Iraq is closely following up on previously initiated projects, particularly the Basra-Shalamcheh rail link for passenger transportation, joint industrial cities, road networks, and trade exchange between the two countries and the region.”
The prime minister also highlighted that “Economic partnerships and development are the path to achieving security and stability in the region”, Adding that “Regional and international issues, especially the situation in the region, were discussed”.
He affirmed that “Iraq maintains its firm stance in condemning the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied territories.” He added that “civilians are being systematically targeted while the international community remains passive, failing to fulfill its duty to stop these grave violations and crimes that threaten regional and global peace.”
He mentioned that “the path to regional stability lies in ending this devastating war and guaranteeing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of a free state.”
He reaffirmed that “Iraq reaffirms its consistent stance and efforts in supporting the truce and calm achieved in Lebanon and its commitment to the reconstruction of Lebanon and Gaza.”
He emphasized that “stability in Syria is key to regional stability,” and Iraq calls for “a comprehensive political solution that preserves Syria’s independence and sovereignty while reducing external interference.”
He stated that “Iraq respects the will of the Syrian people and supports any political or constitutional system they choose without foreign intervention.”
He affirmed that “Iraq is ready to cooperate with all parties to enhance stability in Syria, facilitate a smooth political transition reflecting the will of all Syrians, and contribute to reconstruction and the return of refugees.”
He reiterated that “Iraq’s position is consistent in advocating dialogue as the best approach to resolving disputes between countries and rejecting the use of threats, which only leads to further tensions and crises.”
He concluded by stating that “Iraq operates based on its national interests with an independent and balanced policy aimed at enhancing regional stability and building international relations founded on dialogue and mutual understanding.”
