The head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the borders with Syria are fortified, and while he confirmed the intention to increase the security forces there, he announced the completion of the construction of 400 km of the concrete wall between the two countries.
Al-Khafaji said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministries of Interior and Defense, the Joint Operations Command, and the Popular Mobilization Authority have taken strict measures that have enabled us to fortify the borders with the Syrian side for more than three years."
Al-Khafaji added, "There is a trend to increase the units in that area, in addition to the great work that the security forces are doing around the clock through intelligence efforts and following up on the pursuit of sleeper cells, as well as the continuous air strikes," noting that "the stability of the Iraqi-Syrian borders is very great from our side, as we do not allow any violations towards Iraq."
He pointed out that "work continues on the concrete wall along the 615-kilometre border, as 400 kilometres have been completed and the remaining 210-215 kilometres will be completed later in the middle of the year, ending any security breach on the border."
