Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, confirmed today, Sunday, that the Iraqi army continues to develop and achieve important achievements in organization and training, pointing out that there are government efforts to accelerate the arming of the army with strategic weapons from different sources.
Al-Muhammadawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The brave Iraqi army is a long, immortal journey of heroism, victories and honorable positions, and has recorded immortal stations throughout its victorious journey and long life that has reached 104 years."
He added, "The experiences, expertise, teachers, leaders and ranks of this great army will remain present, and despite some bitter experiences that the army went through, especially in 2014, its solid foundation, its long history, the patriotism of its members, their professionalism and their absolute belief in the justice of battles and struggles in defense of Iraq and the Iraqis, were all reasons and components that made it rise again, and be a large and effective part with the rest of the various security forces in achieving the resounding military victory over the state of superstition in 2017."
He pointed out that "the accumulated experiences of our Iraqi army and the benefit of all the lessons learned from the liberation battles have enabled it to make very important strides in terms of organization, training, openness and maneuvering, and it has mastered the arts of tactical and operational combat. additional reserve units have been formed to reinforce the elite units."
He stressed that "the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of Staff, with the follow-up, guidance and support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, are continuing to work to accelerate the completion of everything related to advanced strategic weapons, which come from different sources."
He explained that "the strategic plans, in light of the accelerating and renewed challenges, require updating and continuous review of the armament and equipment files, in addition to the organization and plans of openness and maneuver, in order to be appropriate to the nature of the challenge and the priorities of the threat. Hence, the importance of sound consideration, effective intelligence work and activating partnerships in a manner consistent with the constitution, laws and the supreme interest of Iraq emerges."
He continued, "Enhancing the concept of security to be comprehensive, and not limited to the military and security aspects only, is one of the fixed foundations that contribute to consolidating and developing the security sector with all its names. This must include economic, industrial, agricultural and educational security, as well as the security systems of values and the great heritage of Iraq, so that the links of the concept of comprehensive security are integrated to confront all challenges and crises."
