The Ministry of Electricity confirmed on Wednesday, that the Iranian gas stop will last for 15 days, indicating that a procedure was conducted with the quantities of Iranian gas paid to the southern region, indicating that the cessation of Iranian gas due to maintenance made the system loss 6,000 megawatts.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Power stations are still affected by the cessation of imported Iranian gas, and the system is losing more than 6,000 megawatts as a result of the cessation of this gas," noting that "there is maintenance work that will continue for 15 days inside Iranian territory and then return to pump gas in the required quantities, and after completing maintenance, the rise of gas will be gradual."
He pointed out that "there was a two-week gas stop in Baghdad province and the provinces of the Middle Euphrates and the central region, which in turn determined the loads of stations and stopped generating units in other production stations, which affected the hours of electricity processing,"
He continued: "We are still affected by the decline and cessation of gas release by the Iranian side," noting that "we are following up significantly with the Iranians to re-launch gas and we are working according to the decisions and directive of the Prime Minister to increase higher coordination with the Ministry of Oil."
Musa stressed that "the Ministry of Oil is trying hard to compensate for the lost gas in gas oil, at least, adding that "there is an attempt to cross this crisis with hours of electricity processing until the gas is gradually re-pumped after the end of maintenance work."
