Iraq calls on Poland to open an embassy in Baghdad

    A parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Falih Al-Khazaali, and MPs from Agriculture, Water and Marshlands, and Economy, Industry and Trade Committees, discussed on Tuesday enhancing and developing trade exchange and economic cooperation between Iraq and Poland based on mutual benefit, calling for opening a Polish embassy in Baghdad.

    "The delegation discussed with the head of the Office of Cooperation with Foreign Affairs and the Vice President of the Union, Szumowski, along with the advanced team in the Union, ways to enhance trade, industrial and agricultural cooperation between Iraq and Poland," according to a statement by the Parliament media department - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA. 

    The two parties proposed establishing a joint economic conference that includes businessmen and suppliers, in addition to the specialized committees, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Industries.

    "The conference aims to enhance and develop trade exchange and economic cooperation between the two countries based on mutual benefit," added the statement. 

    During the meeting, they discussed the importance of organizing field visits and meetings between businessmen interested in developing trade relations.

    Szumowski stressed "his readiness to cooperate in developing future steps for communication to reach trade, economic and agricultural agreements between the two countries, and to facilitate the procedures for granting entry visas to Iraqi businessmen to visit agricultural and industrial projects in Poland." 

    In turn, Al-Khazaali called to "conduct a comprehensive study on the opportunities and potentials of economic and investment cooperation between the two countries", stressing "the need to deliver the results of this study for discussion and to reach practical recommendations that contribute to strengthening bilateral relations, as well as solving problems and obstacles that hinder the development of cooperation."

    MP Al-Khazaali expressed "his pleasure with the presence of the delegation of the Parliament to enhance cooperation between the two countries, reviewing the history and civilization of agricultural Iraq", pointing to "the great investment opportunities available in Iraq in light of the laws that support investors and the stability of the security situation". 

    He stressed "the importance of increasing the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and Poland", calling for "opening a Polish embassy in Baghdad and branches of Polish companies in Iraq, in addition to facilitating the entry of Iraqi traders to Polish markets."
