National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji confirmed on Saturday, that the fatwa of sufficient jihad issued by the supreme religious authority, represented by Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, restored confidence and stopped the advance of terrorism, while he pointed out the existence of a supreme committee in the advisory council to combat violent extremism.
“The fatwa of sufficient jihad issued by the supreme religious authority represented by Sayyid Ali al-Sistani restored confidence, and the people responded to it and stood in the face of terrorism and its advance,” Al-Araji said in his speech during the Fifth Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS 2024) held by the American University in Duhok, and attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "We started confronting terrorism from Diyala Governorate in cooperation with the residents who provided the security forces with information about the movements of ISIS gangs, and we achieved victory over terrorism, and today those who speak extremist rhetoric are ostracized by society."
He continued, "The government carried out the largest reintegration operation by transferring families Al-Araji with ISIS from Al-Hawl camp to Iraq during the years 2023-2024, and we cannot succeed if society does not cooperate with the government in this area."
He concluded by saying, "We have in Iraq a high committee to combat violent extremism that works with other committees in the National Security Council and carries out many activities in the Iraqi arena, and we need to strengthen such positives."
