The Ministry of Interior announced today that a drug trafficker was killed and four personnel were injured during a confrontation in Diwaniyah.
In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Brigadier Mukdad Meiri, spokesperson for the ministry, said that a joint task force from the Directorate for Drug Control, the Counter-Terrorism Service, and the Tactical Regiment surrounded the wanted trafficker, who was sought under Article 28 of the Anti-Drug Law.
The suspect reportedly attempted to hold his family hostage for 15 hours and engaged in a shootout with security forces, throwing a hand grenade that injured four members of the Counter-Terrorism Service.
Brigadier Meiri confirmed that the suspect was killed at the scene during the clash.
