Arab League Council Condemns Zionist Occupation Aggression on Lebanon

The Arab League Council condemned the Zionist occupation’s aggression on Lebanon, calling for urgent financial and material aid to be delivered to the country.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives expressed its strong condemnation of the continuous and brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon, calling for an immediate halt to the hostilities. The council warned of the grave consequences of the ongoing aggression, which poses a significant threat to the security and stability of the region's populations. It further emphasized that any incursion or occupation of Lebanese territory constitutes an assault on Arab national security.

This stance was reflected in a resolution issued by the Arab League Council at the conclusion of its extraordinary session on Thursday, presided over by Yemen, under the title: "Solidarity with the Lebanese Republic and the Provision of Urgent Aid to Address the Continued Israeli Aggression on Lebanon and Its Consequences."

The council reiterated its full solidarity with Lebanon in light of the dangerous aggression, which has resulted in the martyrdom of thousands of civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, and medical workers. Thousands more have been severely injured, and over a million people have been internally displaced due to the destruction of thousands of homes, with entire cities and villages reduced to rubble. The aggression has also led to the burning of vast agricultural lands, which the council deemed as acts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, in flagrant violation of international treaties and human rights law.

The council held the Zionist entity responsible for the aggression and supported efforts to hold the occupying entity accountable in international forums and courts. It urged Arab nations, friendly countries, and international organizations to expedite the delivery of urgent financial and medical assistance to Lebanon, considering the immense pressure the barbaric assault has placed on the health, relief, and social sectors. The council also expressed gratitude to all Arab nations that have already begun providing aid.

The Arab League Council affirmed its support for Lebanon’s position and its diplomatic efforts with the international community to pressure the Zionist entity into halting its ongoing aggression. It also called for the immediate cessation of hostilities, paving the way for the full implementation of international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, in cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces and the United Nations peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon. Furthermore, it urged the UN Security Council to assume its responsibility in putting an end to Israel’s land, sea, and air violations of Lebanese sovereignty and to end the occupation of Lebanese territories, affirming Lebanon's right to resist and confront such aggressions by all legitimate means.

The statement also welcomed the declaration issued on September 25 by various international powers, Arab nations, and friendly states, calling for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the adoption of all necessary measures to implement it.

The council reiterated its support for the Lebanese government's efforts to extend its authority over all its territories within its internationally recognized borders and for the strengthening of constitutional institutions to enhance national unity and ensure the country’s security and stability, starting with the election of a president and the formation of a government capable of addressing the pressing political, security, economic, and social challenges.

The council further tasked the Secretary-General of the Arab League with following up on the implementation of this resolution, conducting the necessary consultations with Arab states, and coordinating with relevant Arab and international organizations and funds to provide humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and life-saving drugs. Additionally, Arab League missions in foreign capitals and international organizations were instructed to work with Arab ambassadors’ councils to convey and explain the content of this resolution.

The Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives also decided to keep its sessions in continuous deliberation to monitor the situation and to call for the convening of the Arab Ministerial Council whenever necessary.
