Baghdad-INA
The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, on Friday, that all objections to Personal Status Law will be taken into consideration, while indicating that there is no imposition of will in passing the law.
Committee member Raed Al-Maliki told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Concerns about the law are misunderstood through the media and by parties that attributed non-existent clauses to the law."
He added that "there is no imposition of will in passing the law and today's session for the second reading ended based on the proposals that will be taken into account and studied in formulating the draft law."
He pointed out that "the essence of the law is to give Iraqis the freedom to choose their personal status according to the constitution that guaranteed it in Article 41."
The Council of Representatives concluded, last Monday, discussing the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law.
The media department of the Council of Representatives said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Council of Representatives has concluded the report and discussion of the proposed law to amend the Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959, Articles 2 and 10."
