The Ministry of Defense's General Directorate of Intelligence and Security declared on Thursday that two networks involved in the trafficking of drugs had been taken down in Baghdad, and that 13,000 pills found in the accused's possession had been found.
"Under the guidance and supervision of Defense Minister Thabet al-Abbasi, the detachments of the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate were able to seize a network dealing in narcotic substances consisting of (4) defendants in one of the capital's areas," the directorate said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement made clear that "arrest warrants were issued against the accused in accordance with the provisions of Article (28 drugs)," pointing out that "the defendants were seized in possession of (8,000) narcotic pills and (5,000) narcotic tubes."
In a related context, the statement noted that "the accused were referred to the competent authorities," adding that "the security detachments were able to detain five drug dealers in Baghdad, and seized in their possession a quantity of crystal meth and Paraphernalia, in addition to various weapons and equipment."
