In a phone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid reaffirmed Iraq's willingness to offer any form of medical care and humanitarian support to those injured, while also extending his sympathies to the families of those killed in the attack.
"President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid held a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati," according to a statement from the president's media department that was obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During the phone call, the President of the Republic vehemently denounced "the attack on Lebanon on Tuesday, which resulted in martyrs and injuries," calling it "a dangerous development, and completely unacceptable escalatory attempts to expand the circle of war and aggression, which withdraws serious repercussions on the security and stability of the region."
In addition to stating that Iraq is "ready to provide all kinds of humanitarian and medical assistance to the wounded," the President of the Republic expressed "its condolences to the families of the victims of this attack" and expressed "sympathy with the brotherly Lebanese people in this ordeal."
In addition, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid emphasized "the need for the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities to stop the war on the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, and to prevent any attempt to expand the circle of conflict," citing "Iraq's support for consolidating the security and stability of Lebanon and rejecting aggression against it."
As for the Iraqi people and government, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said he was "deeply thankful and appreciative of their firm and supportive positions towards Lebanon in the various challenges it faced in the past."
