The Security Media Cell - SMC confirmed on Monday the participation of all security formations and agencies in the drug control file and placing it as a priority, noting that hundreds of tons of this scourge have been seized during the past and current years.
"The Joint Ops Command is working with the Ministry of Interior, the Intelligence and National Security agencies, as well as the Popular Mobilization Forces in the drug control file," said the head of SMC, Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He added, "The drug scourge is one of the major challenges that has begun to threaten the security, safety, and stability of Iraq, as the effort to combat has the support of the supreme religious authority - Marja - and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammed S. Al-Sudani, in addition to the security leaders. Work is ongoing to pursue and eliminate drug dealers."
"The Iraqi judiciary supports the security effort and issues sentences according to the law, up to the death penalty and life imprisonment, against those who traffic in this dangerous scourge, after verifying the charges," he noted.
Al-Khafaji asserted that "the security forces succeeded during the past two years and the current one in seizing tons of drugs, burning them, and pursuing drug dealers, whether they were inside or outside Iraq."
