The Joint Operations Command clarified, on Wednesday, the details of the seven Bell 505 aircraft that Iraq received earlier from the American side and the importance of the Army Air Force and its recent contracts, while confirming that Iraq will receive 8 other training aircraft at a later time.
The spokesman for the command, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "The Army Aviation received 7 American-made aircraft at the end of last July, they are advanced and sophisticated aircraft used in the field of training and preparing flight instructors to lead the Army Aviation," indicating that "the Army Aviation Force is very important and is needed by the ground commander because it is flexible and provides support in maneuvering as well as in areas during the progress of the segments."
A statement by the Ministry of Defense received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "this came within the contracts prepared in advance for the purpose of keeping pace with the development taking place in the field of training, and in the presence of the representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Commander of the Air Force, a number of senior officers of the Ministry of Defense, the American military attaché, and a representative of Bell Company."
The Commander of the Army Aviation, Major General Pilot Mohammed Abdul Karim Awfi, confirmed - according to the statement that "this batch will have a significant and clear impact in updating and improving the training system with modern aircraft, in addition to preparing competent pilots capable of protecting the skies of Iraq from any aggression, as well as carrying out duties with high efficiency and ability."
