The Joint Operations Command-JOC announced on Tuesday, identifying those responsible for the recent rocket attack on Al-Asad Air Base.

JOC stated in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency -INA, that “At precisely 2100 hours on August 5, 2024, Al-Asad Air Base in Anbar Province came under attack by two rockets, launched from a vehicle within Haditha district. The base, which hosts several International Coalition advisors, was targeted. Our rapid-response units swiftly secured the scene, intercepting the vehicle, a Kia truck, which was found to contain eight additional rockets primed for launch. The rockets were expertly disarmed by our engineering teams”.

JOC reiterated Iraq's unwavering stance on defending its sovereignty and independence. We condemn, in the strongest terms, any acts of aggression against Iraqi soil, interests, or installations, from any source. The Joint Operations Command firmly rejects any reckless actions that endanger Iraqi military bases, diplomatic missions, or International Coalition advisors, which risk escalating tensions and dragging Iraq into conflicts.

“Through rigorous intelligence and security efforts, our specialized units have successfully uncovered critical information about the attackers,” the statement added. “Operations are underway to capture these perpetrators and ensure they face justice”.
Additionally, there will be accountability for any lapses in security, with a thorough investigation targeting commanders, officers, and those responsible for the security perimeter.

The Joint Operations Command stands resolute in its mission to protect Iraq's security and stability. We will not tolerate our homeland becoming a battleground for external conflicts or the settling of scores. This is a clear message: Iraq's sovereignty is inviolable, and we will exert every effort to maintain peace and stability within our borders.
