The first economic city in Iraq was located, as disclosed on Friday by the National Investment Commission (NIC), which also noted that economic cities are investment portfolios that have the ability to draw both domestic and foreign capital.

"The Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Haider Mohamed Makiya, during his meeting in the presence of members of the committee and representatives of ministries and sectoral authorities concerned with Maysan Governorate, called for the importance of intensifying and coordinating efforts in a detailed manner that contributes to creating a realistic vision and a successful announcement for investors, businessmen, and companies wishing to make such investments," said Hanan Jassem, a spokeswoman for the National Investment Commission, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

It was decided how important it was to prepare a clear map of road networks, water and electricity sources, and other requirements for granting investment license for these projects, which will be within the axes and discussions of the upcoming meetings, she continued. "The meeting was briefed on the full boundaries of the areas distributed according to the projects to be established with the possibilities of expansion in some of areas."

"A number of proposals and ideas supporting the implementation of such projects, based on the approval of the Prime Minister to form the Supreme Committee for the Development of Al-Tayeb region in Maysan Governorate and its neighboring areas," Jassim noted, "were submitted as part of the committee's work."

"Under the chairmanship of Haider Mohamed Makiya, Chairman of the National Investment Commission, the Supreme Committee for the Development of Al-Tayeb area in Maysan Governorate and its neighboring areas has already started its work," Jassim stated.

"The development of the area will achieve a great economic return that will contribute to moving the economic base in the province and providing job opportunities for the people of the province," she said, adding that "the city of Tayeb will include a variety of projects in various economic disciplines, including projects specialized in the residential sector, and others in the industrial sector and other economic projects in addition to recreational and academic projects."
