The Ministry of Interior announced on Monday, the arrest of three dangerous criminals working for the banned PKK, while indicating that the criminals caused fires and bombings in Erbil and Kirkuk and were planning operations in Baghdad.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, said in a press conference held with the participation of the Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Hemin Mirani, and attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Coordination is very high between the federal and regional ministries of interior,” indicating that “in In 2022, there was a fire in Kirkuk, another in Dohuk, and a third in Erbil. It turned out that the criminals were affiliated with the banned PKK, and their crimes were difficult to detect, as they made dough and put it in the markets, and it did not catch fire immediately, but rather after hours.
He added, "These people caused the targeting of the entire economy of three governorates, worth millions of dollars," noting that "in coordination with the region, the clues to the crime were identified and the accused were arrested, and in a qualitative operation they were arrested."
He pointed out that "the party supporting the criminals is the banned PKK, and their goal is to attack the commercial interests of one of their neighboring countries," noting that "the amount of losses they caused is estimated at 300 million dollars."
He stated, "Their plan included targeting areas and markets in Kirkuk, commercial companies, and the Ceyhan oil pipeline, as well as shops and markets in Baghdad and places in Erbil and Dohuk," noting that "they were arrested in a specific operation and in a hidden manner, in cooperation with the Kurdistan region."
