The National Olympic Committee of Iraq announced on Thursday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shi'a Al-Sudani has approved the construction of a sports facility with international standards.
"In response to the request of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, the Prime Minister directed the construction of a sports facility according to international standards, with large areas and modern technologies," the Olympic Committee's media said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"The facility, which is scheduled to see the light of day in the coming period, will include swimming pools, specialized sports halls, administrative, technical and medical facilities for athletes and headquarters for national federations, as well as media centers and research and conference centers," the statement quoted First Vice President of the Olympic Committee Khalid Kabian as saying.
"The facility will be a scientific model with international specifications and will be superior to others in most countries in the region and will be worthy of Iraq's history, civilization, prestige and the aspirations of its athletes and fans," he added.
