The Commander-in-Chief directs to protect archaeological and heritage areas and sites

    The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, directed today, Wednesday, the preparation of a package of measures aimed at protecting archaeological and heritage areas and sites.
     
     
    The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief, Special Forces Major General Yahia Rasool Abdullah, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “The Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, chaired, today, the regular meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security,” indicating, “The developments in the security situation in the country were discussed, the issues on the agenda were considered, as well as the requirements for security and intelligence work for the various security and military units were discussed.”
    He added, "The meeting witnessed a discussion of (the national project for preventive guidance on the danger of drugs and protecting young people from it), presented by the Ministries of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research and the National Security Advisory. The Council directed the adoption of a comprehensive national strategy to combat drugs, which includes well-studied axes that will protect our youth from this dangerous scourge and protecting society from its dangers.”
    Rasool continued, "The meeting discussed the file (security and protection of archaeological and heritage areas in Iraq, and the inclusion of cultural properties on the international list), submitted by the National Security Advisory and the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture."
    The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed the Council of Advisors, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Antiquities and Heritage Authority to study the file, and to work on preparing a package of measures aimed at protecting archaeological and heritage areas and sites and preserving them from tampering and theft.
