Federal Court and Cassation Court both convene jointly under Chief Justice Zaidan's direction

    Judge Faiq Zaidan, the Chief justice of the supreme Judicial Council, convened a joint meeting of the Federal Court and the Court of Cassation today, Monday, during which it was decided to adhere to the legal statutes and constitutional provisions that delineated the respective jurisdictions of the two courts. 

     The Supreme Judicial Council's Chief justice, Judge Faiq Zaidan, hosted a joint meeting today with the vice-presidents of the Court of Cassation, the president, and members of the Higher Court, along with the head of judicial supervision, according to a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).  

     In the event that case law is required in a matter not covered by the constitutional or legal text, a joint meeting will be held to reach a consensus, the statement continued, saying that "during the meeting, the jurisdiction of the two courts was discussed and it was agreed to abide by what was stipulated in the constitution and the laws in force that defined the competencies of the two courts."
