Iraq and Iran talk about bilateral cooperation and shared border security

    During his visit to Tehran on Tuesday, Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari spoke with Iranian officials about bilateral coordination and border security.

    "Al-Shammari and his accompanying delegation, in the capital Tehran, discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Mr. Ahmed Vahidi, and several officials, several issues of common interest, foremost of which is intensifying work to secure the shared international borders, and the measures of the two neighbouring countries to reduce smuggling and infiltrations," according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.

    The statement asserts that they also talked about coordinating efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime, cross-border crimes, and extradition; they also spoke about bolstering cooperation in the areas of training, experience sharing, and postgraduate study opportunities, Arbaeen Pilgrimage, pilgrims numbers, and entry security were also discussed.  
     
    After these discussions, the Iranian counterpart and the interior minister jointly addressed the media to discuss the purpose of the visit.
