Details about the death of a girl in the Yarmouk neighborhood near Karkh were made public by the Baghdad Operations Command on Thursday.
"Social media platforms and media agencies circulated news that 'a motorcyclist shoots a girl and kills her in the Yarmouk area" in Karkh," reads a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
According to the statement, "a man driving a motorcycle shot his sister in Karkh under the pretext of 'Honor Killing,' and fled."
The statement noted that "the offender is still being pursued by the security forces in order to apprehend him and deliver him to the police station to receive his just punishment in accordance with the law, even though the body was transferred to the forensic medicine department."
