The President: This stage requires more cooperation between all national forces

    President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, confirmed today, Thursday, that the current stage requires more cooperation between all forces and national blocs to consolidate stability.

    The Presidency’s Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the head of Taqadum Party, Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim.” And the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, in addition to a number of officials and political figures.

    He added, "During the meeting, the general conditions in the country and the importance of concerted efforts to improve the services provided to citizens and work to improve their living conditions were discussed. The selection of a new speaker of the House of Representatives was also discussed in accordance with constitutional and electoral entitlements.".

    The President of the Republic stressed according to the statement that "the current stage requires more coordination and joint cooperation between all national forces and blocs to consolidate political and security stability in Iraq and confront regional and international challenges in a way that enhances peace and security for our people and the peoples of the region.".

    Rashid pointed out, “The necessity of accelerating the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives and completing the constitutional obligations in accordance with the understandings between the political parties, which contribute to supporting political stability and enabling this institution to perform its role in approving legislation and laws related to the lives of citizens,” according to the statement.

    He warned of "the necessity of completing the process of selecting governors for the remaining governorates in a way that supports the government in completing the paragraphs of its executive program and improving the standard of living of citizens.".

    In turn, Al-Halbousi stressed “the importance of unifying ranks among the Iraqi forces in order to preserve the country’s sovereignty and achieve comprehensive development goals,” praising “the proposals of the President of the Republic in support of electing a new Speaker of the House of Representatives in order for the House to perform its national tasks,” according to the text of the statement.
