Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari discussed on Tuesday, with his Syrian counterpart, Muhammed Khalid Al-Rahmoun, cooperation and coordination to control the joint border.
On the sidelines of his attendance at the forty-first session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in the Republic of Tunisia, Al-Shammari visited his Syrian counterpart, Muhammed Khalid Al-Rahmoun, at his residence, according to a statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Shimmari stressed that "Iraq welcomes the return of Syria to its Arab surroundings and the meetings of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers."
The visit witnessed "a discussion of cooperation and coordination to control the joint borders and crossings, as well as prevent smuggling operations, especially drugs."
Al-Shimmari pointed out that “last week witnessed a quadrilateral meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, during which many issues were raised related to joint security work between four countries, including Syria,” stressing that “between the Republics of Iraq and Syria there is bilateral work in many fields including combating cross-border crimes, organized crimes, and combating drugs."
