An Iraqi-Iranian meeting discusses improving the reality of joint ports

    Iraq and Iran discussed today, Thursday, improving the status of common ports between the two countries, while a bilateral meeting came up with 9 recommendations.

    A statement by the Border Ports Authority received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: “The Chairman of the Authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, received  this morning a government delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran represented by Majeed Mir Ahmadi, Deputy Minister of Interior, in the presence of the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq.” To discuss a number of important issues related to the reality of the border crossings and ways of joint cooperation.”.

    The statement added, "The topics that contribute to improving the trade situation between the border crossings of both countries were discussed, and a set of recommendations were made, including the following:

    First - agreeing on the necessity of closing the unofficial ports and crossings because they are a safe passage for the entry of prohibited materials. 

    Second - emphasizing the fight against smuggling." Drugs. 

    Third - Harnessing all capabilities and proactive preparations for the success of major visits, in particular (the fortieth visit). 

    Fourth - Continuous communication through representatives at the border crossings to avoid any problems or disruption in the progress of commercial work and to address obstacles that occur suddenly in order to achieve smoothness in Proceeding with the due procedures.

    Fifth - Emphasis on continuing to activate international transport (transit) and striving to increase trade exchange and coordinating working hours between neighboring ports. 

    Sixth - Controlling excess weights of trucks in order to preserve the roads. 

    Seventh - Solving the problems of commercial exchange squares and agreeing on a work mechanism that serves both parties. It protects workers at ports from abuse and assault. 

    Eighth: Agreement to facilitate the entry of passengers and goods through electronic programs to exchange information. 

    Ninth - Auditing the taxes imposed at joint outlets and adhering to the agricultural calendar to protect the local product. 

    The statement concluded by saying, “The Chairman of the Authority renewed his welcome to the guests, wishing to maintain communication through official channels in a way that serves the economic interests of both countries.”
