Berlin closes its consulate in Moscow

    The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, stated today, Friday, that the German authorities closed their general consulates on Russian territory, in accordance with their policy of completely severing bilateral relations with Moscow.

    Zakharova said, in a comment in this regard published on the Foreign Ministry’s website: “The German authorities are taking these measures in accordance with the policy pursued by the Federal Government of Germany, which aims to sever all Russian-German relations, including reducing bilateral interaction in the diplomatic dimension.”.

    She noted that "consular services for Russians living in Germany will only be available in Berlin and the Consulate General in Bonn."
    She added: “Berlin deliberately complicates consular services for hundreds of thousands of Russians living in Germany. We are taking measures to mitigate as much as possible the difficulties created by the German authorities for our citizens and Germans interested in maintaining contacts with our country.”.

    Earlier, Germany closed its general consulates in Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, and Novosibirsk against the backdrop of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, which was launched on February 24, 2022.
