Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani, and Minister of State for Gas Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan, Maksat Babayev, stressed today, Friday, the importance of cooperation in the field of gas supply.
A statement from the Ministry of Oil received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: “The Minister of Oil, during his meeting with the Minister of State for Gas Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan, Maksat Babayev, confirmed that the meeting included discussing expanding the horizons of joint cooperation in the oil and energy sector, and that Iraq and Turkmenistan possess great potential in these areas.” He pointed out that “the government and the ministry are keen to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation with the Republic of Turkmenistan in the field of oil and energy.”.
Abdul Ghani pointed out, according to the statement, “the importance of cooperation in the field of supplying gas to electric power plants, and that signing the memorandum of understanding is an important step to enhance opportunities for cooperation, calling on companies in the Republic of Turkmenistan to participate in the promising investment opportunities announced by the Ministry in many fields.”.
The statement continued, "The Minister of State for Gas Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan, Maksat Babayev, expressed his happiness for the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, considering that the signing of the memorandum of understanding to supply gas to Iraq is the beginning towards increasing the prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.".
For his part, Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel confirmed, according to the statement, that “the memorandum of understanding with Turkmenistan is one of the quick solutions that we are working on in the Ministerial Council for Energy, to enhance production and increase processing hours for citizens.”.
In turn, the Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber, said: “The signing of this memorandum and agreement with Turkmenistan is the result of the intensive efforts made by the joint ministerial team between the Ministries of Oil and Electricity during the last period, including holding intensive discussions and meetings during its visit to the Republic of Turkmenistan last August.” And reaching axes that achieve common goals.”.
