The United Nations clarified the forms of cooperation with Iraq in the field of combating crime and drugs while praising the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, which resulted in an increase in the volume of seizures this year.

"Iraq is a signatory to the International Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and a signatory to all conventions on combating drugs and the Convention of Counter-Terrorism and Corruption. This is part of the agreements implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime," said the Chief Program Coordinator of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime - UNODC and the Head of the Iraq Office, Ali Al-Barir, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

He added, "We are working with Iraq in the field of drug control with the participation of the Ministries of Interior and Health, in addition to the border control program, whether through the container control program or through airport control, which focuses on passengers, and we have begun training courses."

"We are currently working with the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Office as well as developing its capabilities to confront money laundering and terrorist financing, in addition to a large number of programs," pointing out that "we have seen government excellence and determination in the recent period in the field of combating drugs through the Ministry of Interior, where the volume of seizures has increased. These are promising signs that we hope will increase in the next stage," he explained.
